When looking for a new car, for many people the amount of boot space on offer is a deal breaker. We wanted to compile a list that was sufficient for a range of drivers and varying budgets! Whether you’re transporting pushchairs, suitcases, DIY supplies, sports equipment or musical instruments, our list of the top cars with big boots is sure to have something to suit your needs.
The Kia Sorento has been heavily praised for its boot space and practicality. The most current version of the Sportage is bigger than ever and provides excellent space throughout. The Sorento is a seven-seater vehicle but once the rearmost seats are folded away, there is a load capacity that could rival many commercial vans. With the back seats folded down, there is an impressive 605 litre boot space! The boot space itself is also really practical too. There’s little intrusion from the wheel arches, a wide boot opening for heavy items and no annoying boot lip to hoist items over.
Land Rover Discovery Sport
If you’re looking for something a little more up market that provides impressive boot space, the Land Rover Discovery Sport is perfect for you. The Land Rover Discovery Sport is also a seven-seater that offers massive boot space when you fold down the rear seats. The load area is large and all seats fold completely flat, making it a dream for any large equipment. It also has a flush lower lip which makes loading a doddle. The Discovery Sport only really lacks when it comes to storage in the boot. If this is essential to you, unfortunately the Sport offers no underfloor storage.
The Peugeot 3008 has been well loved in the UK for a while now and the seven-seater version, the Peugeot 5008, is as stylish and practical as the 3008! With all seats up, the 5008 is a well-equipped family car, which has enough space for the weekly big shop with no issues. Once you flip the third row of seats down, you get a massive 780 litres of boot space! For the drive it’s a comfortable drive with room for all throughout.
The Q7 looks good and offers a lot of practicality! The Q7 is another seven-seater that offers a reasonable amount of boot space even with all seven seats in place. Its roomy enough for a large suitcase, weekly shop or pushchair. When the 3rd row of seats are folded down, there is a 770-litre boot capacity and lack of load lip makes it easy to fill the boot. You also get small netted cubby holes to keep things tidy and a handy 12v socket in the back for charging electricals whilst driving.
Hyundai Santa Fe
With all seven seats folded flat, the Hyundai Santa Fe offers more space than the 5008 and Land Rover Discovery Sport. With the second and third row of seats folded down, you get an almost van like feel from the amount of space you have. There is also a 5-seat version of the Santa Fe if you don’t need all seven seats. The boot lip is practically level with the floor which makes it particularly easy to slide in large objects or various types of luggage. There are also plenty of tether hooks to secure fragile luggage and it has good underfloor storage too. Overall, the Hyundai Santa Fe makes an impressive large family SUV that comes with plenty of equipment.
The Volkswagen Touareg is a really impressive 5-seater car which boasts plenty boot space. The back seats can slide forwards, backwards and recline so you can get a fair amount of rear comfort and boot space that suits you. The seats drop down at a press of a button but don’t lie completely flat. There’s no high lip though so you won’t kill yourself trying to load the boot! The interior has lots of handy storage areas throughout including a large glovebox, storage under the front and centre armrests and spacious door bins. There’s enough room for 5 six-foot adults in the front and rear so you don’t need to worry about comfort!
Whilst it’s not the best-looking vehicle on our list, the Citroen Berlingo offers a very impressive boot space! The Berlingo is a van derived MPV and has luggage space at the forefront of its design. It comes in both a 5 seat and 7 seat version, but the smaller 5 seats still offer plenty of room throughout. There’s plenty of head room in the front and rear and is comfortably enough for 5 or 7 tall adults. The 5-seat option has nearly 775 litres of capacity space which is a strong rival for many of the 7-seater vehicles on our list.
The Volvo XC90 is another seven-seater which offers a huge amount of boot space. Even in a seven-seat configuration, there’s a great mix of refinement and practicality. There’s also a pop up shopping bag holder to make your weekly shop even easier and there’s a generous amount of underfloor storage too. Overall, the Volvo XC90 is a luxurious seven-seater which has also featured on our list of the best cars for towing! Its packed with safety technology to keep the whole family safe.
Skoda Superb Estate
In the estate car market, the Skoda Superb is one of the best cars with big boots. The boot is also really practical and comes with a large and wide opening, a low lip and a whole host of nets, hooks and cubbies to keep your boot tidy. You can easily fit in two or three large suitcases, pushchairs, golf clubs and whatever else you may need. You can also add an adjustable boot floor and load cover that retracts as you open the boot. The Skoda Superb is big in the front, big in the back and big in the boot area! Both passengers and luggage will be well looked after in the Skoda Superb.
